For those of you struggling, or questioning things in your life~ relationships, jobs, friendships, etc.~ this article is for you. And if you aren’t one of “us” I still recommend you read it. There are 10 great life lessons we should all know in our 30s.

10 Life Lessons to Excel in Your 30s

be HAPPIER in your HOME

5 Apr

It’s a Saturday afternoon, and normally I would running around crazy getting errands in or just spending time with my family. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to be doing those things, or maybe I’ll do one or two later on, but for now, I’m enjoying me time. With all of our crazy lifestyles and schedules, you need to take time for yourself and not feel guilty of it. And believe it or not, it all starts in your home.

When I am stressed or in a state of anxiousness, making my home clutter free is not on the top of my list. I like to say I have “organized chaos”. I’m sure I’m not the only one on this! However, I do realize that when my home is is clutter free or even organized I feel better. I’ve been in a funk lately and the simple of act of making my bed had become a chore.

Something came over me the other day, and as soon as I got up, I made my bed and straightened out my bedroom. I can’t even describe the relief I felt. It’s like my bedroom felt different. Sometimes, it’s a simple act of making our bed that can help our day get that much better.

So on this relaxing Saturday, I started with making my bed, folding some laundry (which I also loathe but feel better after I do it) and did some reading. I’m going to make it a point to follow this 10 simple rules to be happier in my home. And if you’re like me and need a boost or a little motivation, this post I came across is for you.

It will make your life and home a whole lot better. I promise!

Keep it simple and relax!!

Make your vision board come to life

1 Mar

Oprah WinfreyIt’s Saturday and you’re surrounded by magazines, a cork board, scissors and scraps. Sounds like the perfect Saturday night, right? Well, for me it most certainly was. I’ve been on a mission to create an ‘adult’ looking vision board to hang in my room. I’m made them on poster board. I have even made a vision book sectioned off with all parts of my life, but I haven’t made one that I really enjoyed looking at.

So I decided today that this was going to be the day. I had just finished reading a book where the author talked about her vision board and how everything just started to happen. Now, I could totally relate because I’ve looked back at some of mine and things had really happened. And it wasn’t until after did I realize it. With a new month and a new season upon us, today couldn’t have been a better day to choose.

I headed off to Hobby Lobby (one of my new favorite stores) in search of this perfect ‘adult’ cork board. Now of course being the Virgo that I am, I have this vision of what I want it to look like and I get very agitated if I can’t find. I circled the store twice and it wasn’t until I went down an aisle I had somehow completely skipped. And there it was; the only one left. Plus it was 50% off!!!! Can we say score!?!?

Once I came home (after having a fabulous dinner with my ‘rents and of course a great heart to heart about where my life is heading~ that’s another post) I grabbed all of my magazines and started flipping through the pages. If you’ve never done one before here are some pointers:

1. Grab any and all magazines that you have.

2. Think about what you want to be the focus on your vision board. For me my soul purpose was really for a new job and love.

3. Cut out key words or phrases that really strike you. I looked for words that really represented me.

4. Organize your phrases and pictures on your board. In the top corner of my board I designated it for my new future job. The bottom left I found some words for places I want to travel to and picture of 3 girls. It represent me and my two girlfriends that usually travel together each year. The top right I devoted to my health and well-being. And the bottom right is for relationships.

5. Last, type up a list of goals you know you can truly stick to for the month. This month I’m focusing on changing my blog into an actually business for me. I am devoting my workout regimen to a new program that I can’t wait to try (I will also be posting about this-stay tuned). The third is making me hold myself accountable to writing and lastly, I want to revamp my closet again. I did this in December of 2012 when I completely transformed my closet (Out with the Old) but you should always stay on top of things. I’m starting to feel cluttered and I know it needs to be done again.

Once your board is complete, make sure you find a place where you can see this day in and day out. This is something that you need to be excited to see and want to put out into the universe that you’re ready for any of these things to happen. I know I am!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me! I love guiding people and helping them create their visions into reality.

Happy vision boarding!

Going back to an old love

17 Nov

piano girl Usually when we think of or want to go back to a old love, we most likely think of exes. But for once, try to think of something you may have loved once in your life, not someone. I’m thinking of doing something that I haven’t done since I was probably 11 years old.

Growing up my parents had me involved in so many things that I loved to do; one of them was playing the piano. Now I do recall during this time period, hating going to lessons, hating to practice, but I do remember that I loved listening to the piano and could always visualize myself playing the songs I would listen to. As I got older and went into high school, I had a love for Natalie Merchant, Tori Amos, and all of the other 90s favorites,  and wished to be able to just sit at a piano and play like they did.

Fast forward to 1998, when I was in college and I needed classes to take so what did I do, take a beginning piano class, obviously getting an A, but I remember enjoying going to class and playing. I don’t know why I never pushed myself to take more piano lessons/classes after this, but I’m kind of kicking myself that I didn’t.

Here we are 15 years later since that elective class and I have made the decision to go back to an old love. Music has always been a huge part of my life whether it be sitting in my room listening to songs that describe my mood or dancing to express myself. I’ve been blessed with having this major creative side that allows me to be able to express how I feel about certain situations in my life and I feel at this point in my life, piano would be the next best thing.

Lately, I’ve been obsessed with my iHeartRadio app and have had my Lana Del Rey radio station playing all the time. If you’ve never heard of her, you need to look her up. However, it wasn’t until I heard the following song that really struck a nerve with me. It’s a cover song of Bon Iver’s song “Skinny Love” by Birdy. The lyrics, the piano, everything literally speaks to my soul. I will someday, hopefully, be able to play this song or be able to actually just sit and play cover songs that I love.

It’s a release and therapy all in one. If you have an old love, that had you feeling the way music and the piano makes me feel, it’s okay to revisit it. This is the one time in your life that people will give you the thumbs up.

Hope you enjoy the song as much as I do!
