Sneak peek into Rhode Island’s first The Container Store

16 May

photo 2

Every organizers dream is coming true! Rhode Island’s very first The Container Store is opening up this weekend in Cranston, RI. This will be there 66th store to date.

I couldn’t help but squeal with excitement when I was arriving at the VIP party last night. As an organizer and fanatic of revamping my household, I couldn’t even contain myself when I stepped foot in there.

As I walked around, I was so impressed with how everything was laid out and that each department was not overwhelming.

Here’s a look into some of my favorite things that I will most definitely be purchasing:

For Travel

Drawstring Jewelry Pouch~ Durable, water-resistant and made from nylon. It has a padded base and it has a drawstring closure.

Waterproof Pouches~Ingenious SealLock™ closure keeps water,  sand and dirt out. The ultra-clear window allows for full use of touch screen and voice options.

Critter Luggage Tags and Destination Stripe Luggage Tags  ~ These tags are so cute and different! Make your luggage stand out with any of the above. Both are made from durable plastic.

Pack This! Classic Checklist~ Can we say this list is genius!? Even for the most organized person, it’s great to have on hand to remind you of things you need to take when you’re traveling.

For the Home ~ Closet edition

The Container Store is known for their elfa line. This is one thing, I need to get my hands on. You can either go into the store and meet with an elfa expert or try and design your very own design on line. It’s amazing how any closet space can be totally utilized if done correctly.

Primary Tubular Hangers ~ I’m ususally one to just pick white or maybe one color. But I love the idea of maybe using a color for my shirts and another color for pants, etc.

Our Shoe Boxes ~  Exclusive to The Container Store only, these clear plastic boxes are wonderful to have for your shoes. If you looked into my closet (which I have posted on here) I have all my shoes in their boxes, but it is sometimes hard to tell which shoe is which. These boxes are brilliant!!

For the Bathroom & Laundry Room

Sometimes our bathrooms and laundry rooms don’t get enough love or organization that they should.

Acrylic Lipstick Risers and 12-Section Acrylic Nail Polish Riser ~ Both are made with durable clear acrylic, which makes them long lasting. The acrylic nail polish riser is exclusive to The Container Store.

Large Overcabinet Hair Dryer Holder~ This is what I need in my life. I’m so tired of just throwing my hair dryer under my sink and making it get tangled with everthing. This overcabinet holder is perfect! It’s made from metal with a nickel finish.

3-Section Acrylic Hinged-Lid Box~I don’t know why I never thought to put my three things together but this would make my morning routine a little bit easier and more organized.

Large Micro Mesh Bra Wash Bag~Now this. This I need. I have mesh bags that I wash my delicates in and usually put my bras in so they don’t get ruined, but this will keep the shape of our bras, which is the most important.

White 2-Drawer Mesh Organizer~ I can’t even explain how much I love these. I have them in my bathrooms and my kitchen. They helped keep the underneath so much more organized. No more of just throwing things under the sink to never be seen again.

For the Jewels

How many of us keep our jewelry out on our bureaus or in those tiny little pouches? I know I’m guilty of it. These organizers allow you to see what you have. Jewelry of all kinds, is meant to be worn and seen! Let it stand out ladies!

Premium Acrylic Chest~This is what I need to have in my life. I love the whole idea of being able to see it right there in front of you, displayed beautifully.

Expandable Jewelscope Jewelry Tree by Umbra~This tree features 8 branches and expands from 15″ to 23-1/2″ in height. Perfect for some of those long necklaces you may have.

Small Stacking Acylic Trays ~ These are also another affordable way to keep your jewelry looking organized. It’s 100% acrylic the tray has 8 adjustable dividers.

I hope you enjoyed the sneak peek and have created some ideas of your own. Make sure to stop by their Grand Opening this weekend!!!! The Container Store has partnered with Crossroads Rhode Island is donating 10% Grand Opening Sales to them.

Can’t wait to hear what you all think! What will be something you definitely want to buy?

Happy organizing!

Spring cleaning your closet? Helpful tips to make it easier

7 May

Kate_BosworthNow that May has officially arrived, I hope you’re not like me and have put aside the task of spring cleaning your closet. Every morning I walk into it and literally just stare. I know it needs to be done, but it’s a task I’m dreading.

Looking for some tips or motivation, I came across this post from Who What Wear that has some simple and realistic tips. I may just have to write them down to remind myself. I always hold onto certain items and think, “Weeeelll maybe I’ll wear it.” And here it is a year later and it wasn’t touched.

Hopefully this weekend, I will finally cleanse my closet and feel better going into my work week and not just stare into my closet every single morning.

Remember to donate, donate, donate if you can. There’s plenty of bins around town or they’ll even pick up for you and consignment shops. Make sure you take advantage if you can.

I also found this checklist that may be helpful. Remember it’s just a guide and you may adjust it as you see fit.

Time to start fresh

27 Feb

It’s almost spring time and if you’re anything me, I like to go through my closet and literally do a clean sweep. We’ve all fallen for the trends, that bag we just had to have or the shoes we love but hate because they kill our feet. All of these things are just taking up space and lately I’m learning to get rid of the clutter in my life and closet. If you’re not ready for the major life revamp, start with your closet.

Below is a quick guide I read on Refinery 29, to help you start somewhere. Before you know it, you can fill it up again with the hottest new trends, that new bag and the next pair of shoes that you will just love but kill your feet.

Fashion Rules You Should Know and Follow

3 Oct

let's talk fashion

The other night I was browsing around on Pinterest (shocker!) and I came across this pin that said, 101 Fashion Rules. So I clicked on and read the post. It was brilliant and obvious at the same time. However I got to thinking, it’s not brilliant and obvious to everyone and these are things people should know and follow.

As I was reading, I made notes of A-ha moments or comments to myself. I hope with people reading it and being exposed to this fabulous information, there will be less confusion on what to do and how to style/wear certain things.

Here are some of my A-ha moments. Enjoy!

Rules I most certainly already follow:
#92  “Always organize your clothes going light to dark from left to right in your closet. Your eye will follow the color and thus help you stay organized.” — Melanie Charlton Fascitelli, Founder, Clos-ette and Clos-ette Too.

carrie quote

Can we say genius!!! If you don’t already do this in your closet, I highly suggest you do! It will make your closet look organized and pretty at the same time.

#89 “If you don’t have time to try on jeans in the store, try the Neck Method: You can determine your size by placing the waistline of the jeans around the diameter of your neck. If the waistline of the pant comfortably meets at back of your neck, then the jeans will fit.”— Sarah Ahmed, Creative Director, DL1961 Premium Denim

Haha I used this trick and taught it to men when I worked at Structure for a few years. It gave the lazy guy or the guy who needed to be in and out of the store like lightning but wanted a new outfit quickly and effortlessly, a way to grab those new pair of jeans and be on their merry way. Lol

#44.  Still look chic while showing some skin: If you’re wearing a miniskirt or shorts, cover up on top. If your top is skimpy, go for full-coverage bottoms.

Women should always be following this rule!!

#43. Fold jeans like a pro: Lay jeans on a flat surface, fold in half from left to right. Grab the stacked jean legs and fold them in half so the hem of the jeans lines up with the waistband. Fold the jeans in half one more time.

Not sure how else people fold clothes. The thought scares me! I think I may know how to do this because I worked in retail for a long period of time. lol

#32. Freeze jeans inside a plastic bag for two days to zap odor without running them through the washing machine.

I definitely want to try this!!!

#31. Looking for an easy trick to make your bare legs look longer? Try pumps the same color of your skin, which gives give the illusion that your legs extend a few extra inches.

If you didn’t already know this, I’m sorry. Now you do 🙂 It is the best little trick (if you even want to call it a trick)

#24. When it doubt, always choose the smaller denim size, since jeans stretch with wear.

Always do this! Especially if my jeans that I’m buying have lycra in them. They will stretch even more.

#22. The easiest way to make your closet look organized: Buy all the same hangers for everything–same color, same shape.

Love this! And I do it. It may be the true Virgo in me that makes me love it!

#17. Pile on good accessories—scarves, sunglasses, hats, statement jewelry—to instantly transform even the most basic outfit.

I do this on a daily.basis, especially now with fall coming. This is the best season to be wearing your favorite accessories.

#9. Who has the time to hand wash bras? Machine wash them in cold water in a mesh zipper bag and drape them over a hanger to air dry.

My mesh bag is my best friend when it comes time to wash my bras.  I always make sure they are clipped so the hooks don’t get caught on the mesh while they’re being washed. I also hang them over my drying rack. Never thought to do a hanger but I’m definitely going to try it.

#5. If you’re unsure about an impulse or sale purchase, leave it at the store. If you’re still thinking about it when you wake up the next day, buy it.
I’m definitely prone for doing this. This is the only way I know I really, really want something. Especially if it’s a big purchase. HOwever, I am also known for making impulse buys. But aren’t we all?! 😉

and last but not least,

#1. There’s nothing cooler than sticking to a signature style you know looks good on you. Slaves to fashion are never chic!
